HOME>WINTER FUN>MYOKO AKAKURA SNOW AREA
Discover the wide variety of ski slopes at the foot of majestic Mt. Myoko!
Also known as Echigo Fuji, reflecting both the old name of Niigata and Japan's tallest mountain, Mt. Myoko is home to the area's ski areas. The two areas of Akakura—Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen—are the oldest in the area, as well as some of the oldest in the nation. Here are a vast number of runs set into the beech forest, with runs ideal for skiers of all levels. The views of the valley and town below, as well as of Lake Nojiri and the Sea of Japan (even distant Sado Island when conditions are good) are breathtaking.
And with some of the heaviest snowfall in the world, the chances for deep powder sliding are very good indeed!
